About the Temple
A small but traditionally built Bhagavathy temple, full of Devi's grace
Sree Kattuparambil Devi Kshethram
As its name says, Kattuparambil Devi Kshethram is a Bhagavathy temple. It is in the Kakkanad–Vazhakkala area of Kochi, and a legend links it to an ancient temple in Thiruvananthapuram.
The temple is small, but it is built according to traditional norms. Devi is the main deity, with Nagadevatha and Ganapathy also in the temple grounds.
The Panchaloha idol of Devi
Devi's idol is made of panchaloha, the sacred alloy of five metals. It is a captivating image of peace, tranquillity, compassion and love, and gives endless grace to devotees who surrender at Her feet.
There is a story behind the idol. A devotee who was worried about his job prayed to Devi, and his prayers were answered. In gratitude, he offered a Panchaloha idol of Devi to be worshipped in the temple. The idol was installed on 19 January 1989. Read the full history →
Worship and tradition
The temple poojas follow the tradition set by Adi Shankaracharya, with the advice and direction of the Thanthri, Kizhakke Neelamana Brahmasree Narayanan Namboothiri.
What makes this temple special is that the idea of building a sanctum here came from Devi Herself. It was expressed through Swami Jitendriyananda Saraswathy, Her devoted disciple, who was destined for a monastic life from the age of seventeen. All the poojas and activities are carried out under his direct guidance.
Many devotees say that Devi's guidance through Swamiji has helped them with problems in their lives: finding a suitable life partner, removing delays in marriage, finding a job, overcoming difficulties in business or career, children's education, and physical or mental health. Devotees from all over the country come here to worship Devi and find peace and happiness.
